Robbers attacked a man in his 50s, hitting him on the head and knocking him out.

The victim woke up on the ground, tried to crawl to his car and was found by a member of the public and taken to hospital.

It happened in an alleyway in Hawkins Road, in the Hythe area of Colchester, after a young man walked past the victim and told him to hand over his wallet.

Police said today they were not yet linking the crime with a similar robbery in Colchester earlier this month but are keeping an open mind.

The attack follows a robbery at about 7pm on February 10, when an 81-year-old man was left with a dislocated shoulder, fractured cheekbone and severe bruising.

The latest robbery was reported at 7.25pm yesterday.
