Plans have been lodged to demolish a former vets' practice and build low-cost housing in Braintree.
First Line Cars, which operates mainly as a taxi business, has applied to Braintree Council to demolish the site of the former veterinary practice in Coggeshall Road, Braintree, and build six affordable one-bedroom flats.
John Ahmed, director of First Line Cars, said: "It wasn't considered appropriate to use the site for taxis with an old people's home next door. We have asked to be able to build affordable housing for the local community there instead.
"The plan is to build six one-bedroom flats, ideal for first-time buyers. If we get planning permission, we hope to have the project completed next spring."
