Police are appealing for help in tracing three men who stole £700 from a pensioner after claiming to be from the water board.
The theft happened at 1.30pm yesterday, when a man called at a house in Laurence Avenue, Witham, claiming a truck had driven over a water main and he needed to check the water.
He was allowed into the house and the elderly occupant followed him into the kitchen.
Later, the man found two other men in his lounge. After they left, he discovered £700 had been stolen.
Both men in the lounge are described as 6ft tall, of stocky build, in their 30s and wearing dark clothing.
The man who called at the door is 5ft 9ins tall, about 30, with dark hair and dark clothing.
