Colchester PC Lee Wilkinson scooped the yearly policeman's prize - a plaque, certificate and mini truncheon trophy - after impressing judges with his 85 arrests last year and a glowing report from his supervisors.
The Association for the Protection of Property and Prosecution of Thieves, Known as Thieves, has been in existence for more than 200 years and boasts a membership of 180 people.
The annual dinner serves as a chance to celebrate the work of Colchester crimefighters and make donations to good causes.
Secretary Jim Wellerd said: "The Thieves award is given to the policeman who shows the most promise and carries out his work with the greatest diligence."
