After spending thousands of pounds on a lost battle for burials in Brightlingsea, the town council is to badger on for a result.
Members have already taken more than £12,000 from the reserve funds to finance representation at a consistory court hearing.
Chancellor of the Diocese of Chelmsford George Pullman QC ended a long and bitter battle between the council and the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and the Rev Richard Salenius when he ruled no further burials could take place at All Saints' Churchyard.
Despite losing the battle, and thousands of pounds which could be slapped on to the tax precept at a later date, the council has said it will continue fighting.
At Friday's meeting, mayor Colin Olivier said: "When the judgement came I thought I was in a different place for those three days than the chancellor. But obviously I must have got it wrong."
He said members have a plan that will allow churchyard burials to continue "for years to come". Details will be revealed at a public meeting on Friday at the community centre at 7.30pm.
