Controversial plans to move Colchester's bus station led to a motion calling on councillors to resign being passed at a public meeting.
The scheme faced overwhelming opposition when 60 people gathered at the event organised by the Save Our Bus Station (SOBS) campaign.
Councillors Robert Davidson, portfolio holder for regeneration and partnerships, and Richard Gower, portfolio holder for planning and transport, were confronted by a tough crowd at the RAD centre, Walsingham Road, Colchester.
Bus users, students, trade unions and disabled people were among those who voiced their opinions.
Tony Constable's motion that the meeting should request the portfolio holders and their leader should resign was carried with 16 in favour, one against and 12 abstentions.
