Firefighters were called to a cell fire at Chelmsford Prison.

The call was made just after 5pm on Saturday after a prisoner had set fire to his cell. Three appliances attended along with the aerial ladder platform but the fire was out on arrival.

The prisoner suffering from smoke inhalation was left in the care of the ambulance and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus ventilated the cell.
