Colchester United manager Phil Parkinson took the unusual step of shutting his side in their dressing room for more than half an hour after the U's 2-0 loss to Bristol City.

The U's looked off the pace in their Coca-Cola League One clash against the Robins, who could easily have put more goals past Colchester keeper Dean Gerken than the two they managed.

Parkinson usually keeps his post-match talks quite short and sends the players out to warm-down, but on this occasion there were things about the lacklustre performance he wanted to discuss straight away.

He said he wanted answers from his players about the weak showing that left them six points off the League One drop-zone.

"Normally I will say as little as possible and we will go away and watch the tape later," he said.

"But to be honest I needed a few answers from the players and I was not prepared to leave the dressing room until I got some."

He said he was satisfied with what his team had to say, but would not divulge the details of the discussions behind closed doors.
