A move to centralise the way Essex County Council manages its transport systems has been condemned
There are fears that it will lead to a reduction in the service provided for residents across Tendring.
County Hall is carrying out a radical overhaul as part of its new highways and transportation strategy.
As part of that staff currently working at Tendring Council in the highways department will transfer to the county council's Colchester office from April 1.
Essex county and Tendring district councillor Roy Smith said it was a backward step as far as he was concerned and was totally opposed to it.
"I cannot see that moving staff away from Tendring will improve the service to Tendring in any way whatsoever," he said.
"Over many years a great deal has been achieved at a local level and I am sure that part of the success has been due to the fact that the staff were based in the town hall at Clacton - within the district - and not 16 miles up the road at Colchester."
