Colchester manager Phil Parkinson was dismayed his side could not reproduce the battling display that saw them beat Bournemouth a few days previously.

Bemused - U's manager Phil Parkinson 41141-1

He said: "I thought we were lifeless from the first minute to the last minute. They were sharper all over the pitch than us.

"People might say to me the lads looked tired from playing on Tuesday but other teams play on Tuesdays and reproduce on Saturdays.

"You might not get 100 per cent of what you got on the Tuesday but today we were not even at 50 per cent."

He added: "There were a few words said at half-time that we were lucky to get in there at 0-0 and if we did not go out there and compete a little bit better with everyone playing a lot better all over the pitch we would not win the game.

"I was honestly expecting a response from the lads, but it didn't happen."
