A BILLERICAY spice factory has admitted supplying the chilli powder containing the illegal Sudan I food colouring which can cause cancer.

Herb and spice specialist, Unbar Rothon based in Radford Way, is involved in the scare, which has led to 359 food products being taken off supermarket shelves.

The directors of the company issued a statement on Saturday saying they had no knowledge of the contamination and they denied reports they imported the chilli powder directly.
