Councillors are being urged to practice what they preach by rolling up their sleeves and cleaning the borough's streets.
A litter pick is being organised by Colchester Council on March 19 and 20, and everyone is invited to attend.
At a meeting of Colchester Council Peter Chillingworth, portfolio holder for street services and waste, urged his fellow councillors to take part in the event, either by delivering sacks and other equipment to volunteers in their wards, or by picking up litter themselves.
Information has already been sent to town and parish councils, schools and some voluntary bodies and the list of volunteers taking part in the event is growing.
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the litter pick should contact Brian Godden, street care team leader, on 01206 282737 or at brian.godden@colchester.gov.uk for details. They will be supplied with equipment and safety advice.
