The multi-billion pound Crossrail project seems to be gaining momentum, with many visitors to an exhibition in Brentwood town centre welcoming the scheme.
The project will see a new route established across London, stretching from Shenfield, through central London to Heathrow Airport and Berkshire.
Transport experts at the exhibition gave advice and information to commuters, workers and residents wanting to find out more about the plans.
Exhibitions are also being held at 24 other towns along the route of the railway and the events detailed the plans going into the parliamentary Crossrail Bill which if approved would see the scheme completed by 2013.
The proposals will link Shenfield in the east with Heathrow and Maidenhead in the west through new tunnels under central London.
The journey time from Shenfield to Heathrow Airport will take 73 minutes. Passengers throughout the route should enjoy more comfortable journeys as the total number of seats available will increase as a result of longer and more frequent trains.
The Crossrail scheme will have a major impact on existing rail links and stations along the route.
Station improvements are being considered for Shenfield while Gidea Park, Harold Wood and Brentwood are in line for platform extensions and station revamps.
A new station is planned for Romford, including a new ticket hall, entrances, plus new lifts and stairs to the platforms.
The Crossrail helpdesk is available 24 hours a day on 0845 602 3813.
