Maldon could see a new blue plaque appear in memory of one of the town's master ship builders.
Town councillors will discuss a plaque the Maldon Society wants to place at 61 North Street in memory of John Howard.
Mr Howard, who lived between 1849 and 1915, built more than 20 sailing barges during its heyday, including the Mirosa, which carried hay, straw and timber between London and rivers in Essex, Kent and Suffolk.
Margaret Day, of the Maldon Society, said: "He was an important figure in Maldon's maritime history."
Maldon town councillors will offer their views on the matter when they meet on Monday.
