A woman and two children were killed after their car plunged into a river following a report of a domestic dispute, said Essex Police.

The car was recovered from the River Lea on the border of Essex and Hertfordshire at around 8pm yesterday.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A six-year-old girl and three-year-old boy were rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, but could not be revived.

Police said the dead woman, believed to be from the Harlow area, was linked to a nearby domestic dispute.
