Residents in Tendring will soon get the chance to Shop a yob on a special new hotline.

The scheme - which is being promoted by the Home Office as part of its ongoing battle to clamp down on anti-social behaviour and its effects on the community - should be introduced in the district within the next couple of months.

People will be able to ring anonymously on a dedicated number to report an incident and then it will be handed out to the most appropriate authority to be targeted and dealt with.

Insp Richard Day, of Clacton police, said it was another weapon in the battle against anti-social behaviour and he welcomed the move.

It is hoped that the system will be launched in Tendring in April.

The hotline will eventually be rolled out in all the 50 Together Action Areas which have been identified by the Government, and includes Tendring as one of only three in Essex. The others in Harlow and Southend were launched this week.
