Darren Day's mum today revealed he is revelling in his new role as a father.

Releasing a first family snap, she said the singing star from Colchester has really taken to the life of a family man since becoming a dad at the end of last year.

Anne Thorpe hopes the reformed "love-rat" and girlfriend Suzanne Shaw's well-publicised troubles are now all in the past.

She described her first grandson Corey MacKensie as "gorgeous".

Mrs Thorpe, of Stanway, said: "It's just nice to see him take to the fatherly role and it's also nice because they are together in Joseph.

"They make a nice couple. He thinks the world of the baby and it's nice to see him play. They are a nice little happy couple at the moment. Let's hope they stay that way."

Darren, 35, attended Sir Charles Lucas School in Greenstead and went on to become a stage star as well as appearing on reality TV show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
