Transport chiefs have announced a radical shake-up to improve services in Essex.
It will see highways staff at district and borough council level relocated to Essex County Council offices.
Bosses aim to create "one-stop shops" for members of the public in a bid provide a better quality and more effective service to the public.
They have stressed the streamlining will not lead to job losses and is not a cost-cutting move.
The overhaul will see four main transport bases in Basildon, Chelmsford, Colchester and Great Dunmow.
Colchester Council employees will be moved to moved to a site at Severalls Business Park.
The transfer is expected to take place in April with a report on the proposal going before the county council cabinet on Tuesday.
