Disabled shoppers claim a new supermarket car park is making life difficult for them.

Several customers have complained about the car park layout at Safeway supermarket, Parkeston, where disabled bays have been moved further away from the store.

The car park has recently been re-drawn as part of the shop's conversion to Morrisons.

Parking spaces nearest the store's entrance were usually reserved for people with disabilities, but they have now been designated for parents with young children.

Morrisons say the move has created more disabled parking spaces, but that has not satisfied some people.

Amy Lockwood, of Sweden Close, Dovercourt, said the changes were a huge inconvenience to her and others with mobility problems.

The 40-year-old said: "It seems such a silly idea to move the parking away and almost defeats the object of having disabled parking. It has really made things difficult."

No-one from Morrisons was available for comment yesterday.
