Craig Fagan will remain a Colchester United player for the time being.
The striker was the subject of a transfer bid from Coca-Cola League One side Hull City but, according to Tigers chairman Adam Pearson, the U's have refused to let him go.
Pearson said: "The discussions regarding the transfer will not be completed as Colchester United do not wish to sell their player."
He added: "Craig Fagan is out of contract at the end of the season and we may reapproach the player then. It's disappointing the private discussions between the two clubs were leaked."
Fagan's future was still in doubt today after he admitted to the Gazette that the U's have made no attempt as of yet to extend his contract, which expires at the end of this season.
He said: "The club have not said anything about a new contract.
"I was only given a one-year deal when I signed after my loan spell from Birmingham City and it has been a great starting point for me.
"I needed first-team games. Some people in Birmingham, though, felt I would drift into obscurity by playing two levels below where I was. I feel I have proved those doubters wrong."
