An Elvis impersonator escaped a driving ban by telling magistrates he has a special ability to pull people through strokes.
Brian Doggett, also known as Elvis impersonator Brian Lee, told the bench at Colchester they couldn't wish for a better person than him to sit at their bedside should they suffer a stroke in the future.
The 57-year-old, who admitted speeding, said: "I should not be disqualified because I've had a massive stroke and I seem to have the ability to pull people out of strokes when they are in hospital.
"If you take my licence away, I won't suffer personally but the people in hospital will.
He added he had already raised £45,000 for the Stroke Association but would not be able to continue the good work if his licence was taken away.
Doggett, of Clacton Road, Thorrington, admitted driving at 40mph in a 30 mph zone in Ipswich Road, Colchester, on the day the matter came to trial.
He already had ten points on his licence from three previous matters, the court heard.
The bench said they accepted an argument of exceptional circumstances, on the grounds of Doggett's health problems and the impact the loss of his licence would have on him and the people he works for in a charitable sense.
He promised he would never speed again and thanked the court after being fined £90, with £55 costs, and receiving four points on his licence, but no ban.
