Villagers are refusing to pay towards a bus escort service for students from their village.
About 18 pupils travel from Wix to Tendring Technology College, which has sites at both Frinton and Thorpe.
About £800 has been received from other parish councils which have pupils who use the bus.
Frinton and Walton Town Council has agreed to give about £6,000 this year.
But the chairman of Wix Parish Council, Ruth Raymer, said the council had decided it was not fair to ask the community of more than 300 people to pay out for a handful of pupils. But she said if a request was made, she had no doubt her council would look at it again.
The escorts were introduced on the buses to stamp out bad behaviour.
