Police have issued a warning about men claiming to have laptop computers to sell cheaply in the Braintree district.

The warning follows an incident in Witham's Cut Throat Lane, where a man was approached by two men saying they had a computer to sell.

The men opened a black case, containing a laptop and a video camera, and offered it to the individual at a price of £400. Negotiation was entered into, during which the price dropped to £100.

The men returned to their car and gave the individual a similar black case in exchange for the money. The buyer handed over £100 but, on checking the case, discovered it was filled with cardboard, not the promised electrical items.
