Katie Lindridge, a student at Colchester County High School for Girls, had spent months completing the major geography project, due to be handed in next week.
She is now back to square one after thieves smashed the window of her Ford Fiesta car while she played netball at the Ormiston Centre, School Road, Monkwick, on Monday night.
She said: "Everything else I can claim for, but the coursework is irreplaceable - I've been doing it since the summer last year.
"To be honest, I don't even know why someone would want to take it. To me it is vital. It is of no value to anyone else."
Anyone who finds it, or who has information about the theft, should call Colchester police on 01206 762212, or Mr Lindridge on 07745 214011.
