A garage is working with police to find a man who test drove a £4,000 car - and never returned it.
The theft happened at the Cherry Tree Garage in Little Clacton and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Cherry Tree Garage director Les White said a man walked into the business in London Road at about 1pm on Sunday and asked to test drive a red Renault Clio.
"He had a look around the car and asked if he could test drive it," Mr White said.
But the thief never brought the car back. It was later found the documentation he left was false.
