The fountain, which was paid for by contributions from residents and businesses in Walton back in 1897, was installed to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria.
It had to be removed from its site at the end of High Street while work on a major overhaul, which is aimed at bringing the town centre into the 21st century, was undertaken.
But contractors are now rebuilding it ten yards away from its original site.
Mike Page, public relations manager for Tendring Council, said it was a popular landmark in the town and everyone would be pleased to see it restored to its former glory.
