A pedestrian crossing will be installed near the spot where an elderly couple died in a road accident.
Gladys and Wallace Reed were killed in 2000 as they walked across Church Hill, Ramsey, to their car. They had just left a prayer meeting at St Michael's Church in Ramsey and had been married for 57 years.
The tragedy led to calls for a reduction in the speed limit and for better street lighting.
Now the site is to have a pedestrian crossing to coincide with the building of the Two Village Primary School in the adjoining Mayes Lane.
A spokesman for Essex County Council said: "It is an extensive package of safety measures and we are doing everything we can to make the road as safe as possible."
