Rampant Southend turned in a superb performance to put one over big county rivals Barking in the Essex Senior Cup quarter finals on Sunday.
The Seasiders returned home from their National Division Three South table-topping adversaries' Goresbrook home in high spirits after an impressive 33-11 triumph which will lift them for the rest of the season.
True, both teams fielded under strength sides, but this victory will certainly boost the morale of a Southend team who have already been turned over twice by Barking in the league this season.
And more importantly it showed director of rugby at Warner's Bridge, Kevin Harman, that he has strength in depth at the club to call upon.
"This was a great victory and showed me a great deal about the fringe players at the club," he said.
"The team I put out at Barking was a mixture consisting of half first team and half second team lads.
"The boys who came in from the Priors did very well and certainly gave me food for thought.
"I'm sure some of them will be involved when we resume our league campaign at home against Haywards Heath this weekend.
"It was a real eye opener and showed me that we have strength in depth at the club and that I have options at my disposal if I feel I need to change things."
