A £10 million boost to tourism in Maldon has been revealed in figures just released.

The number or people visiting the district and its facilities in 2004 brought in £94.6 million to the local economy.

The amount is up from £84.1 million the previous year according to figures just released by the East of England Tourist Board.

Russell Dawes, economic development officer at Maldon District Council, said the figure had continually increased since records for the area were first made in 1998, when £37.5m was generated by tourism.

The use of parts of Maldon for filming for movies and TV programmes - such as Spooks, which filmed around Bradwell - has helped rise the area's profile and boost the economy, said Mr Dawes.

He said Maldon's new Combined Military Museum had also helped to bring more people to the district, as well as the town's Mighty Oak Brewery, Purleigh's New Hall Vineyards, and great places to cycle in the Dengie peninsula.
