A £10 million development is set to transform Braintree bus garage site into flats and shops.

Portman Investment and Development has just submitted a full planning application to Braintree Council to demolish the Fairfield Road garage and build 42 flats and three shops.

The company wants to start work on the site in the summer and estimates the development will take about a year to complete.

First Buses sold the site in July 2003 to Portman for an undisclosed amount.

Barry Cole, director of Portman Investment and Development, based in Hertfordshire, said the development would be in keeping with the surrounding buildings.
