Children's lives will be at risk as they cross a major road on their way to school, it has been claimed.

Crossing chaos - pupils at Two Village Primary School currently have to cross a rural road to get to school, but once the new school opens in September they will have to negotiate a way across the busy A120. 41054-d

Two Village Primary School, which has pupils from Little Oakley and Ramsey, is currently being rebuilt at one site in Mayes Lane, Ramsey.

However, children going to the new school from Ramsey village will have to cross the A120 on their way to school.

The route is the main through road to Harwich International Port and is used by hundreds of articulated lorries every day and has a 60mph speed limit.

Now calls are being made for a flyover or an underpass to allow the children to cross safely.

Concerned Ramsey parish councillor Keith Tully said: "Road safety is a big issue.

"They have made other provisions which are good but it still doesn't sort out the problem of crossing the A120. We need to nip it in the bud before a serious accident happens."

Essex County Council accepted concerns about the safety of Ramsey children and added it would welcome any comments once the school opens in September.
