A drug dealer jailed after he was caught collecting about £10,000 worth of cocaine has failed in an Appeal Court bid to clear his name.

Jason Ovenden, 26, of Connaught Avenue, Frinton, was jailed for seven years at Basildon Crown Court in January last year after he was convicted of having 235 grammes of cocaine with intent to supply.

Lawyers on his behalf argued on Friday that the conviction should be quashed.

They claimed flaws in the summing up of the case from the crown court judge to the jury meant the conviction was "unsafe".

However, Mr Justice Nelson, sitting with Lord Justice Gage and Sir Douglas Brown at London's Appeal Court, upheld the conviction.
