James Scowcroft is on his way back to Ipswich Town.
The striker was today expected to finalise a loan switch until the end of the season, having played against the Blues for Leicester City on Saturday.
Town boss Joe Royle made the move to get cover for top-scorer Shefki Kuqi.
The striker will be out for up to a month after suffering a deep cut just above his left knee during the 2-1 success against City.
Scowcroft, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has scored 28 goals in 147 games for Leicester.
Royle said: "I spoke to Craig Levein (Leicester boss) after Saturday's game and realised there was a chance of getting James. We spoke again yesterday and he has agreed to let the player join us until the end of the season."
