Rather than a cock-a-doodle-do, the bang of fireworks marked the Chinese New Year in Colchester.

The Year of the Rooster started off with an oriental extravaganza in Castle Park on Saturday evening, organised by King Coel's Kittens.
On a bitterly cold evening, the Festival of Chinese Entertainment attracted more than 1,000 people to see Chinese musicians, dancers and a dragon, compered by magician Michael J Fitch.
Organiser Jackie Bowis said: "It was a very good turnout given how cold it was, and everyone enjoyed themselves."
