A man has been locked up for brandishing a knife in a street and threatening to kill a young couple.
Benjamin English produced a kitchen knife with an 8in blade and told David Davidson "I've got something for you" before chasing him down the road.
Mr Davidson managed to escape but Chelmsford Crown Court heard how 20-year-old English returned to the scene in Melbourne Avenue, Chelmsford.
He told Mr Davidson's girlfriend "Your boyfriend - he's a dead man and you will get it as well."
English, of Eves Crescent, Chelmsford, admitted charges of affray, possessing a bladed article and driving while disqualified when he appeared in court for sentence.
He was sent to a young offenders' institution for nine months and banned from driving for two years.
Matthew Pardow, mitigating, said there had been a history of friction between English and Mr Davidson.
English had been suffering from psychiatric problems which made him prone to spontaneous outbreaks of anger. He had been seeking help for his problem, Mr Pardoe said.
