A great-grandmother was dragged to the ground in a ruthless mugging.
Elvina Chetwood <corr>, 89, needed hospital treatment after she fell to the pavement trying to hold onto her bag, cracking her nose on the concrete.
The incident happened in Prince Avenue, Westcliff, when she was mugged by a man riding a bicycle as she was on her way to Tesco, at 11.15am on Wednesday.
She said: "I was walking along and he came on my inside and snatched my bag. I didn't let go and hung on, which pulled me down. It happened too quickly to be frightened.
"I've got two lovely black eyes, a bloody nose and swollen cheeks. I was taken to hospital and they cleaned up my face."
