Backing to building affordable homes on "exceptional" village sites in Essex has been given by the Princess Royal.

Princess Anne was at the Rural Housing Trust's seminar in the village of Polstead, just north of Colchester.
But she heard "nimbyism" is quashing hopes for affordable village homes before proposals even get off the ground.
Councils attending the Rural Housing Trust seminar yesterday reported the main reason that plans for affordable developments fail is "not in my back yard" residents objecting to schemes in their area.
Elizabeth Blundell, deputy chairman of Colchester Council planning committee, said: "Affordable homes schemes are often put in the same bracket as traveller's sites.
"People do not want them in their village but they are happy for them go go elsewhere."
