Year three pupils from St Andrew's Primary School, Hatfield Peverel, learned about what life was like for children in the Second World War as part of their history syllabus.
Armed with home-made gas masks and wearing knitted cardigans, children learned tables parrot-fashion and sewed buttons on to their clothes.
During a drama session, they re-enacted experiences of evacuees and then tucked into sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, tied up with string.
