An 81-year-old man today lies badly injured in hospital after being severely beaten by robbers.
The victim was near his car in an overflow car park at Colchester's Leisure World when the thugs attacked him from behind and took his credit cards.
After the shocking attack, the dazed victim managed to get to a spot near the fire station in Cowdray Avenue, where he was found lying on the ground, injured and bleeding.
An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital for treatment with what police described as "extensive injuries to his head and shoulder".
Det Sgt Richard McNamara, of Colchester CID, today appealed for the public's help to catch the attackers.
The attack happened some time between 6.30pm and 7pm yesterday in an overflow car park for Leisure World and Megabowl in Cowdray Avenue.
