Concerned councillors have backed the campaign for a new hospital for patients in the Clacton district.
It follows a multi-million pound increase in funding to Tendring Primary Care Trust over the next two years to improve health facilities.
Frinton and Walton town councillors were unanimous last night in their support for a replacement to the present outmoded hospital in Clacton, which dates back 100 years.
Walton councillor Mick Page said: "The time has come when the residents of the area desperately need a hospital in this area and not have to travel to Colchester."
Tendring Pensioners Action Group has already started a campaign calling for a new hospital a move backed by the Gazette.
