A Turner Prize-winning transvestite potter who was born and educated in mid-Essex has made a documentary about men who wear dresses.
Grayson Perry's one-hour film, Why Men Wear Frocks, will be screened on Channel 4 on Wednesday.
The cross-dressing artist uses the documentary to explore what it feels like to be a transvestite and, according to Channel 4, says some important things about sexuality and gender in our society.
Mr Perry, also known as alter-ego Claire, was born in Chelmsford and studied at Braintree College.
The 44-year-old, who picked up the £20,000 Turner Prize two years ago, is best known for his ceramics and classically-shaped vases, which he paints with often controversial figures, patterns and text.
