More than £150 million is being injected into frontline medical services in north-east Essex.

Over the next two financial years, Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) here will receive an extra £153,634,000 from the Government.

The cash is part of a £135 billion investment in the NHS aimed at speeding up operations and tackling killer illnesses like cancer and heart disease.

It will help trusts work towards hitting targets for a maximum wait of 18 weeks for an operation by 2008.
