A Colchester dad was left heartbroken when a top judge opened the way for his ex-wife and her new lover to take his baby daughter back to her Spanish homeland.

The father argued at London's Court of Appeal that his bond with his daughter would be shattered before she is even able to speak if his ex-wife got her wish to relocate to Spain with her businessman boyfriend.

But, while recognising the acute distress the father would suffer by being separated from his daughter, Lord Justice Thorpe said his ex-wife would in turn be "devastated" if frustrated in her "natural desire" to go to Spain.
