A plan to expand facilities for recreational sea angling has been cast aside for now.
Anglers in Essex and Suffolk wanted to develop eight miles of estuary upstream from Harwich.
They proposed to concentrate on the rivers Stour and Orwell and make them used for recreational rather than commercial purposes.
However, the idea was rejected by the Eastern Sea Fisheries Joint Committee at its meeting.
On Monday a second body, the Kent and Essex Sea Fisheries Committee, will re-examine the application, which took 18 months for anglers to prepare.
