Tendring Primary Care Trust (TPCT) was yesterday awarded a major increase in funding over the next two years.
The money will be used to improve services in the district, or even to build a new hospital.
Yesterday, a petition was launched by a residents' action group calling for the new facility. The Tendring Pensioners' Action Group will be taking to the streets to gain support for a new hospital.
Today, the Gazette and our sister paper the Clacton Gazette are supporting the call. Veteran Tendring and Essex county councillor Roy Smith is also backing the plea.
Paul Unsworth, Tendring Primary Care Trust chief executive, today said he could not say exactly how the money would be used, but he said the possibility of a new hospital for Clacton had not been ruled out.
