A village sports pavilion, which was burnt to the ground by arsonists, could soon be replaced.
Tendring Council has confirmed it is now ready to put in a detailed bid for funding to the Fooball Foundation for the new sports pavilion and sports facilities in Kirby.
It follows an approach by Harwich MP Ivan Henderson for help from the Football Foundation with which he has worked closely.
He said: "Their proposals for Kirby are fantastic and it is great Tendring Council is now in a position to place the bid and obtain the necessary planning permission."
Mr Henderson first approached the Football Foundation in 2003 and there was some frustration over the delay but he said the foundation had remaimed enthusiastic throughout.
"Now Tendring Council has confirmed it is ready to move forward, we can look forward to great new sports facilities in Kirby," said Mr Henderson.
The arsonists struck in September 2003, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Tendring Council spokesman Mike Page said: "Anything that helps speed up the process is very good news indeed."
