A former community centre will be developed into affordable housing, despite objections from nearby residents.
Braintree area committee meeting last night gave permission for an outline application to turn Edinburgh Gardens, Braintree, into housing.
Julie Wilkinson, of nearby Boscawen Gardens, was one of 12 residents who had objected to the proposals.
She said: "I have lived there for 23 years and I have seen flats obstruct one way and then the other way.
"The location seems to be at its maximum capacity."
Miss Wilkinson said increased housing would put pressure on existing public transport links, which at evenings and weekends were 'non existent.'
