An office worker was attacked by a stick-wielding gang in Chelmsford town centre.
The 22-year-old of Chelmsford had necklaces and a ring, worth £600 in total, stolen during the ordeal.
A group of up to 30 men surrounded the man in Waterloo Lane at 11pm on Saturda and punched, kicked and hit him with pieces of wood.
He suffered cuts and bruises but declined treatment from a paramedic. The friend he was with was unhurt.
