Karl Duguid will miss the rest of the season.

Out for the rest of the season - Karl Duguid

The Colchester United captain is poised to go under the knife for the third time in 12 months.

The right-sided winger had his worst fears confirmed yesterday. A specialist confirmed he will need another operation to fix a knee injury he sustained last March against Stockport County.

Duguid said: "It's gutting. This operation will mean another six to eight weeks recovering and that means this season is gone. I will have to recover and make sure I'm fighting fit for this summer's pre-season campaign.

"I've been out 11 months now, and all I want to be doing is playing. However, I've got to get my knee right first."

U's boss Phil Parkinson was equally dejected. He said: "I'm disappointed that we have lost probably our best player for the whole season.

"My big concern, though, is that Karl gets back playing - which I'm sure he will do."
