Concerns over the future of Colchester's bus station were raised during the unveiling of the new art gallery.
Campaigners are fighting to ensure Colchester keeps a quality bus station. They believe the art gallery should be repositioned to allow the station to remain at its current location.
Tim Oxton, of Save Our Bus Station, said the town would be without a bus station between it closing to make way for the gallery, and a new one as part of the Vineyard Gate retail development.
Paula Whitney, of Colchester Friends of the Earth, expressed concern at the lack of car parking spaces at the gallery, and its energy efficiency.
Speaking about the potential for growth, architect Rafael Vinoly said: It would be really wonderful if the growth of the building resulted in the programme growing and for it to be viable on the business plan.
